Learning Through Life's Lessons

“My parents taught me how to be around nature and how to observe  beauty.  My mom (L'dia Men-Na'a) helped me with art, plants, and respect for animals large and small.  My healing talents come from my mom. My mom taught me about nourishing & balancing the body inside and out paying attention to all of my senses.  On our walks through Jack London Village we'd visit "Samuels Black Art Gallery and the little gift shops.  We'd stop along the way to smell the flowers.  She always asked what I thought about the scents.  I was learning about aromatherapy.  She taught me about gemstones, in fact  gemstones were my baby toys.  I remember playing with them in a star box.  On Saturdays after my sister's dance class my father took me by the water. The walks by the trees were very special.  My dad (Abubakar Adisa Omari) helped me to feel supported, he'd pick me up when I got tired of running.   We had nice father and son talks by the bay. We'd look at the sea gulls and the SanFrancisco/Oakland Bay Bridge. I got to see nature’s balance of water and the power of waves that splashed the shore and rocked the boats anchored on the pier.  My martial arts talents and form came naturally to me from my dad. And I got my looks from both parents. My mom always tells me that I have the best of both my parents expressed through me.  I have to say I would never be where I am today without the lessons of life that I received from my parents”.      Asad Menq-Khan
